The unprecedented flooding in the greater Midland area last month left a wake of devastation. While the damage is far-reaching, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are here to protect the health of our Michigan communities. We remain in constant communication with community leaders to continually assess need. Blue Cross is supporting the Midland community in the following ways:
  • Blue Cross donated $25,000 to the Midland Community Foundation’s #ReliefMidland Flood Relief Project Fund.
  • We are working closely with additional local partners in relief efforts, such as the American Red Cross, the United Way of Midland County, the Greater Midland Community Centers and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to offer as much support as possible in coming weeks. This effort includes working closely to identify and provide needed items, including 1,000 toothbrushes for those affected.
  • We have initiated the senior disaster outreach process throughout the Midland area. This disaster response process allows BCBSM to take an active role in making sure our members that have been affected by the disaster are taken care of. Our care management team commenced special calls to each senior member in the community to assess and ensure their safety.
  • Blue Cross has a dedicated employee giving portal with the food bank, where donations can be made by our employees in support of both covid-19 and flood relief efforts.
  • To help support needs not already being met by local organizations, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation extended its mid-year grant-submission deadline to June 12, offering nonprofits in Arenac, Gladwin, Midland and Saginaw counties the opportunity to apply for funding now when they need it most.
